Storyline

Having enjoyed both earlier movies in the Kingsman series, I was certainly up for seeing this prequel, which, according to the publicity, details the founding of the organization. Ralph Fiennes is the Duke of Oxford, V. C. and pacifist, whose wife is gunned down by the Boers when they are on a Red Cross mission during the second of those wars. Determining his son, Harris Dickinson, shall never engage in battle, Fiennes takes all precautions and more, turning down trips to foreign lands, until Lord Kitchener asks him to go with Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Sarajevo and convince him the assassination attempts are real.. Well. We know how that turned out. Other adventures and misdventures occur, with Rhys Ifans playing a balletic Rasputin, Tom Hollander playing King George, Kaiser Wilhelm and Tsar Nicholas — they were cousins –Djimon Hounsou the general bodyguard and factotum, and Gemma Arterton the bloodthirsty nanny/cook/codecracker, the story moves slowly and wobblingly towards the founding of the stylish spy agency under cover of a Bond Street clothier.
